SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

Education Requirement: Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited university


Certifications Required: CPA or CGFM or CFE preferred


Years of Experience: 5+ years of experience, with minimum of 3 years of Federal Government Accounting experience.  Experience in supervisory or management role a plus.


Responsibilities: The Senior Accountant will be required to accomplish the following responsibilities for Government Agencies:

  • Perform analysis and reconciliation of general ledger to subsidiary ledgers, complete fund analytics for each budget fiscal cycle, research abnormal balances at the trial balance level for each budget fiscal cycle, fluctuation analysis of general ledger accounts or assigned functional areas for all variances greater than established threshold and timeline, and document procedures for all tasks performed, including reconciliation;
  • Research and process corrections affecting the Statement of Differences in the financial related systems, and financial transactions that affect the general ledger and subsequent financial statements, and prepare and process accounting entries in the financial system;
  • Conduct and document process review of tasks, activities and functions;
  • Interact with key client management to gather information, prepare work papers and supporting documentation, resolve assigned task related problems, and make recommendations for improvements;
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive project plan, designed to achieve identified objectives of the client;
  • Manage project resources, and prepare status reports and related project management tasks;
  • Mentor and supervise staff and other assigned resources, and review work performed;
  • Monitor project/task budget to ensure that work is completed on-time and within the budget; and
  • Assist with business development activities of the firm.

Skills Required: Knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and standards, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) in the U.S., Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circulars, Bulletins and other guidance documents, Internal Controls (GAO Green Book), Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) Standards, Pronouncements and Guidance, Federal Acquisition Regulation, and many others.


Essential Qualities: The Senior Accountant must at a minimum possess the following qualities:

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and ethical value;
  • Exceptional client service and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships;
  • Good oral and written communication skills;
  • Problem solving capability, with strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills;
  • Proficiency with US Standard General Ledger (USSGL) and automation tools such as project management software, Microsoft Office and Accounting packages; and
  • Strong commitment to quality and integrity.
